Today is Thursday, Aug. 25. Here are 5 things you need to know:

  • Showers: Another mixed bag today. According to the National Weather Service we can expect a chance of showers, mostly after 11 a.m. Otherwise, the skies will be partly sunny with a high temperature near 80 degrees. Showers likely after 10 p.m. tonight. 
  • Old time jamming: Burlington's , 56 Middlesex Tpke, is hosting an "" from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening. Players of all ages, shapes and sizes come together in the time-honored tradition of sitting and playing music. Entry is $5. 
  • Bridge: The  is hosting two bridge playing events today. The  is COA Bridge Players, a group aimed at seniors, which will meet at 10 a.m. The  is the Thursday Night Bridge group, which meets at 6:30 p.m. Both sessions are open to the public, so come down, play some bridge and meet new people.
  • Toastmasters: The Library is also hosting a gathering at 6:30 p.m. this evening. This Toastmasters Club is an international organization dedicated to helping members improve their communication and leadership skills. Come join the fun-filled, stress-free, supportive group. Walk-ins are always welcome.
  • DoD's five-sided home: On this day in 1941 President Franklin Roosevelt signed a bill appropriating funds for the construction of the Pentagon building. The Department of Defense's Arlington County, Virginia's home is the world's largest office building, with 6.5 million square feet of space holding roughly 26,000 military, civilian and non-security personnel employees. The Pentagon building was dedicated on Jan. 15, 1943.
