Around the Burlington High School Sports World
A look back at the week that was in Burlington High athletics.
The regular season came to a close last week and some of the spring teams from earned qualifications into the MIAA state tournament. This week marked the start of state tournament play, so let’s take a look back at how some of the teams faired.
Boys Lacrosse
The Burlington High School boys’ lacrosse season came to a crashing close this past week at the hands of the Massachusetts division 2 north number one seed. After knocking off Middlesex League rival Wakefield High School in the preliminary round, 11-10 in overtime thanks to Chris Litchfield’s game winner, the Red Devils traveled to Wellesley High School for the second round. Wellesley proved to be too strong for the tenth seeded boys from Burlington, as the top seed throttled the Red Devils 17-3.

Baseball
The BHS baseball team played well enough during the regular season to earn the number 7 seed in the division 2 north tournament, and drew the tenth seeded Masconomet Regional High School in the first round for a home game. Masco came into town and , however, knocking Burlington out of the state tournament by a score of 7-5 in eight innings of play.

Softball
The Burlington High School softball team has high hopes as they kick off their 2011 state tournament this week. The Lady Red Devils earned the second seed in the north, and in the first round by a 7-6 decision. Sophomore Haley Currie sparked BHS in the game, getting two hits and driving in three runs. The Devils will face number 7 Dracut at home once again tomorrow afternoon as they have their eyes set on a state title.
