Burlington, MA - Well we’ve finally reached the end of the 2011 spring high school season as some of the spring teams have finished off their seasons while others continue their quest for state titles. Some of the spring teams closed out successful seasons while others turned the page and look towards improvement in 2012. Let’s take a look back at some of the results from this past week and check in on some of the teams that are still competing.

Softball

It’s definitely been an amazing season for the Burlington High School softball team, as they cruised through the regular season only losing twice and running away with the Middlesex League championship. The Lady Devils’ strong play during the regular season earned them the number two seed in the Division 2 North bracket.

It was a good season for the Burlington High School boys’ tennis team as they had a strong regular season and earned the fifth seed in the Division 2 North bracket. They won two rounds, beating league rival Belmont High School 4-1 in the opening round and then winning a battle against Boston Latin in the second round 3-2.

They moved on from there for a match up with the top seeded Winchester High School Sachems in the North Semi Finals, but saw their run come to an end as they fell to WHS 3-2.

Girls Tennis

Like the boys’ team, the BHS girls’ tennis team also had a very successful season and earned the number 3 seed in the Division 2 North bracket. They started their tournament run strong, knocking off Danvers High School handily by a 5-0 score.

From there they moved on to a match with Swampscott High School in the North Quarterfinals. The Lady Devils earned a hard fought 3-2 victory to advance yet again in the state tournament. The match was decided at the first doubles position, as BHS’ Jenna Frank and Stephanie Swiszcz rallied after dropping the first set 2-6 to win the next two sets 6-1, 6-1.
