Burlington 2013 Town Election - Who's in the Running?

A look at who has filed papers to be candidates in the April election.

Burlington's annual town election is coming up in April and candidates have begun to file papers to be in the running.

The 2013 Town Election will be held on Saturday, April 6. The polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Burlington High School.

There are a variety of open seats, including two spots for the Burlington Board of Selectmen, two for the School Committee and one for the Planning Board.

The first candidate that jumps out when looking at the list is for Town Meeting Moderator. Former 21st Middlesex State Rep. Charles Murphy is as of right now the only candidate to file papers for the spot. Current moderator Phillip Gallagher has taken out papers for one of the two spots on the Library Board of Trustees. Steven Wasserman has also taken out papers for the Library Board of Trustees.

Current Selectman Robert Hogan has taken out papers to keep his seat on the board. Former selectman and perennial candidate Virginia Mooney has also taken out papers as has Christopher Hartling.

Selectman Walter Zenkin's seat is up this year but during a recent meeting of the Board of Selectmen he announced that he would not seek a third term on the board.

So far the candidates who have taken out papers for the school committee are current members Christine Monaco and Thomas Murphy, Jr.

Current member Ann Cummings is the only person to have pulled papers for the Planning Board spot.

According to Town Clerk Amy Warfield the last day for potential candidates to take out papers is 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14 and the final date to file nominations papers is Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 5 p.m. Check out the Candidate's Calendar for all the deadlines.

Visit the Town Clerk's office in Town Hall to get the papers needed to run for office.
