Burlington Approves Extra $500,000 For Snow Removal
The amount more than doubles than $350,000 Burlington had budgeted for snow removal this winter.
BURLINGTON, MA -- Selectmen unanimously approved a request for $500,000 in additional funding for snow removal from the Public Works department. Despite the relatively mild winter, a series of storms in March forced the department to blow through its annual budget of $350,000 for snow removal.
For taxpayers, the deficit will be covered when the town sets its tax rate for the next fiscal year. Burlington spent a total of $850,000 for snow removal in the winter of 2018-19. "We were doing really well until two weeks ago," DPW Director John Sanchez said, without ruling out the possibility any late winter storms could push the final number higher.
Sanchez also noted that the request for increased funding is almost an annual occurance for his department.
