[UPDATED 12:09 a.m.] Election 2012: Burlington Vote Totals

Updated 9:40 p.m.: Polls closed in Burlington

Burlington residents came out in force to vote in today's election. According to Town Clerk Amy Warfield a total of 13,409, or 85 percent, of the total 15,149 eligible voters. 

The town did not go with any party. President Barack Obama took the majority of Burlington votes but the ticket was split for the senate race and Scott Brown beat out Elizabeth Warren in town.

In the 21st Middlesex District State Representative race, Burlington did give the majority to home-town candidate Walter Zenkin over Bedford's Ken Gordon, but not by a big majority. We are currently waiting on Bedford and Wilmington to report their results before calling the race.

On the ballot questions Burlington came out in favor of right to repair and medical marijuana but against assisted suicide.

RACES:

Scott Brown (R), Elizabeth Warren (D): U.S. Senate

Scott Brown has represented Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate since a January 2010 special election held to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the late Ted Kennedy. Brown defeated state Attorney General Martha Coakley with 1,168,107 votes, or 51.9 percent, to her 1,058,682 votes, or 47.1 percent.

John Tierney (D), Richard Tisei (R), Daniel Fishman (L): 6th Congressional District

John Tierney has been the Congressman representing Bedford since 1997. He faces off against Richard Tisei, a member of the Massachusetts legislature for 26 years, most recently as a State Senator. Tisei ran for Lieutenant Governor in 2010, but was defeated by Lt. Gov. Tim Murray. In 2010, Tierney defeated Bill Hudak 57-43 percent.

Ken Gordon (D), Walter Zenkin (R): Mass. House of Representatives 21st Middlesex District

Gordon and Zenkin will vie for the former seat of State Rep. Charlie Murphy who will vacate his seat at the end of this term. Gordon is a Bedford resident, Vice-Chair of the Zoning Board of Appeals and an attorney. Zenkin is a Burlington Selectmen.  

Ken Donnelly (D), Gerry Dembrowski (R): State Senate, 4th Middlesex Distrct - Incumbent Ken Donnelly (D-Arlingotn) looks to hang onto his seat in a race against Republican challenger Gerry Dembrowski.

Incumbent Marilyn Devaney (D), Tom Sheff (I), Gov. Council.

Incumbent of Watertown faces off against Newton resident Tom Sheff. The Gov. Council reccomends nominees for judge posts in Massachusetts, but the governor confirms them. 

Peter Koutoujian (D), Ernesto Petrone (U), Middlesex County Sheriff.

Koutoujian was appointed by Gov. Deval Patrick in 2012 to replace former Sheriff James DiPaola who shot himself in a Maine hotel room.
