Burlington Girls Lax Falls to Belmont 20-11

Hollis Hansburger, Izzy Goldstein and Melissa Hebelow all scored five goals for the Marauders in the win.

Burlington was able to score some goals on Saturday morning, but unfortunately could not stop Belmont from scoring as they lost 20-11.

Belmont had three different players score five goals, as they were able to put together a dominant offensive performance. Hollis Hunsburger, Izzy Goldstein and Melissa Hebelow all put the ball in the net five times on route to the victory.

The Red Devils took the early lead when Rachel Joyce and Megan Packer each scored in the early minutes of the game. Belmont answered back with goals from Caroline McCarthy and Hunsburger to tie the game.

Burlington quickly took the lead back when Jean Hanafin scored her first goal of the game. Belmont answered right back with a goal from Hebelow. Burlington took a 4-3 lead when Erin Clark fired a shot past Belmont goalie Katie Ananian. Belmont quickly tied the game at four on another Hebelow goal.

The Marauders took a 5-4 lead a few moments later when Hunsburger scored, they would not relinquish that lead for the rest of the game. Belmont then ripped off four consecutive goals to take a 9-4 lead. Each team traded goals late in the waning minutes of the half, and Belmont led 11-6 at the intermission.

Burlington scored first after the break when Jodi Han got her second of the game. Hebelow answered back with back to back goals of her own. Hanafin got another goal when the Red Devils scored consecutive goals to cut the lead to 13-9. The Red Devils could not get any closed though as Britta Marden, Hebelow and Goldstein scored to stretch the lead to 16-9.

Clark got her second goal of the game to put Burlington in double digits. Belmont would not let them creep back in the game though as they scored three more goals. Late in the second half Hanafin scored her fourth goal of the game, before Sydney Perkins scored the final goal of the game for Belmont to make it 20-11.

Both goalies faced a lot of action and played well. Ananian made 10 saves in net for the Marauders and Justina Hiney made six saves for Burlington. Belmont improved to 11-3 on the year while Burlington dropped to 4-8 with the loss. Burlington will play next on Tuesday when they visit Woburn.
