Burlington Mall Owner Planning Massive Renovation

Simon Property Group said the renovation will be completed in Spring 2019 and add restaurants and shops to the mall.

BURLINGTON, MA -- Simon Property group said Monday that it would undertake a multi-million dollar renovation of the Burlington Mall. While the company need not offer specifics of the renovation, it signaled it would be focused on the Sears, which announced in January it would be closing. The mall last underwent a major renovation when Nordstrom was added as an anchor, along with a string of high-end shops.

The renovations will be complete in Spring 2019, according to the Boston Business Journal, which first reported this story. In its current configuration, the mall has 1.3 million square feet of space and more than 160 stores. The mall is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

"We are excited to redevelop the former Sears’s store with uses that will benefit the community and the existing retailers in these properties," Simon CEO Michael E. McCarty said in a statement.
