Burlington Softball Cruises to Win in Playoff Opener
The Lady Red Devils advanced to play Sunday in the quarterfinals of the MIAA postseason thanks to a victory on Thursday afternoon.

The Burlington High School softball season lives on.
On Thursday, the third-seeded Red Devils cruised past visiting No. 14 seed Swampscott in the first round of the North Division 2 postseason thanks to a crisply played 6-0 victory.
Burlington pounced to a 4-0 lead in the first inning alone before adding a run in the second and fifth innings. Swampscott, meanwhile, managed just two hits in the game as the Lady Red Devils advanced to the bracket quarterfinal round.

April Adams, Michaela Mazure and Haley Currie each singled to lead off the game and all scored while Kelly McCarthy also ripped a double in the frame to push home a run. In total, eight batters came to the plate in the home half of the first inning.
Thanks to the victory, Burlington will play on Sunday afternoon at a yet to be determined time in the quarterfinal round. The Red Devils will take on either Arlington or Dracut, two teams that play on Saturday in their own opening round contest.

The winner of Sunday's contest will take on either Amesbury or Newburyport in a semifinal game.
"We don't take any team lately because we have some really bad memories of past years," said head coach Kristen Mahoney. "We have had a really great season, but we really try to erase that for the postseason. Even though we've scored a lot of runs or had big hits this year, we're not taking anything for granted."
