Burlington Volleyball Falls to Reading 3-0
The Red Devils were swept by Middlesex League power Reading by scores of 25-15,25-9 and 25-14.
The volleyball fell to Middlesex foe Reading 3-0 on Monday evening at Burlington High.
Reading cruised to a three-game sweep with set scores of 25-15, 25-9 and 25-14.
“I thought we played pretty cleanly, not too many unforced errors,” Reading coach Michelle Hopkinson said. “We had an opportunity to see that we had a lot of depth today which is encouraging.”

In the first set Reading raced out to an early lead to take control. Burlington battled back in the late stages of the set to make it interesting, but in the end Reading proved to be too much as they took a 25-15 victory.
The second set was a little different as Burlington came out strong as they won the first couple volleys to take a 2-0 lead. Reading got back into the game with a Melissa Del Pazzo block and a kill to tie the game. The two teams were then tied up again at 4-4, but it would be all Reading the rest of the way. The Rockets outscored Burlington 21-5 the rest of the way to take the set 25-9. Reading’s scoring run was powered by the excellent serving of Del Pazzo.

Burlington came out in the third set and looked determined not to be swept. Behind the serving of captain Christina Raso the Red Devils took the first two points of the set. Burlington then had leads of 4-1, 6-4 and 8-6 before Reading took control of the set and the game.
A number of players had strong games for each side. Besides outstanding play from its star Dal Pazzo Reading got good performances from Olivia Healey, Hannah Conroy and Morgan O’Brien. Burlington was lead by its captains Raso, Kelsey Carnell and Jean Hanafin.
After the game Burlington coach Carolyn Crowley was pleased with her team despite the loss.
“This was a really tough game for us for a number of reasons.” Crowley said. “At first we were a little intimidated because we were playing Reading, but once we started to play we got better as it went along.”
Burlington fell to 0-2 on the young season with the loss while Reading evened its record to 1-1. Both teams will be in action again of Wednesday when Burlington visits Belmont while Reading travels to Wilmington.
