Burlington's NF Northeast to have Two Runners in Boston Marathon

Scot DeDeo and Teddy Lee to Run the Boston Marathon on the Neurofibromatosis Northeast Team on Monday, April 15th

Scot DeDeo and Teddy Lee will participate in the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15th as part of the Neurofibromatosis Northeast team. Neurofibromatosis Northeast is a non-profit organization located in Burlington, MA whose mission is to find a treatment and the cure for neurofibromatosis by promoting scientific research, creating awareness and supporting those who are affected by NF.

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic disorder of the nervous system that causes tumors to form on the nerves anywhere in or on the body at any time and affects three times as many people as cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy combined.

DeDeo, a resident of Belmont, will be running on behalf of his 3-year-old son Nathaniel (Nat) who has neurofibromatosis type 1. This will be his third time running the Boston Marathon and second time representing NF Northeast.

DeDeo says, “I am excited and honored to be representing NF Northeast and all those affected by neurofibromatosis at this year’s Boston Marathon. Running, and this event in particular, provides a platform to raise awareness about NF, the battles we fight on a day to day basis, and the means to raise funds and get our friends, families, and colleagues involved in helping to find a cure.”

Lee, a resident of Hingham, will be running on behalf of his 9-year-old daughter Emma who also has neurofibromatosis type 1. He has never run a marathon before but knew the one to run in his life is the one and only Boston Marathon.

Lee says, “Since moving here a few years ago, the NF Northeast community has welcomed us with open arms. In addition to providing a great community for Emma and our family, we support NF Northeast because of the awareness, research and education it promotes regionally and nationally.”

DeDeo shares Lee’s high praise for the organization. “NF Northeast is an amazing organization and does so much to support families with NF, build a community, and advocate for all of us,” said DeDeo.

This year DeDeo has decided that 26.2 miles is not enough to get the job done. He will be running the Boston Marathon Double: Boston to Hopkinton to Boston for a total of 52.4 miles to double down on his awareness and fundraising efforts.
