BURLINGTON, MA — A planned warrant article regarding the Community Preservation Act to Burlington has been postponed, the committee pushing for it announced Sunday. Vote Yes CPA Burlington Chairman Jonathan Sachs said the group decided to postpone the article due to the new coronavirus.
The article at the June town meeting would've added a question to the November, 2020 ballot.
The Community Preservation Act allows towns to raise a local fund for open space, historic preservation, affordable housing and and outrdoor recreation facilities. The funding comes from a local property tax surcharge of one to three percent, plus a state contribution of varying amount.

"Due to the pandemic, the town meeting warrant may only include those items that are critical to keeping the town operating," Sachs wrote. "In addition, our ability to present our case for CPA in person to various town committees is very limited at this time. Given this it was deemed both a logical and responsible action to postpone."
The committee remains in support of bringing the act to town and will continue its campaign "as soon as conditions allow," according to the announcement.
