Members of Burlington Venturing Crew 1799 enjoyed two nights at the Dartmouth Outing Club's "Class of '66" Cabin. The hike in to the cabin was an enjoyable 3 mile hike in single degree weather. Once at the cabin,
the Crew set about setting up sleeping areas, stocking wood for the wood stoves and preparing to make meals. Over the next two days, the Crew worked on outdoor skills including first aid and making "A-Frames." The A-Frames are made out of poles and ropes, using special knots/lashings to create a strong, stable platform which can be used to evacuate personnel in wilderness situations. They did a great job, because the A-Frames were able to hold the heaviest Crew members!

The Crew "ate like kings" according to Venturer Adam Krupp. The original plan to roast turkeys was
derailed because the cabin oven was defective, but the Crew improvised, adapted and overcame by sending out a team to procure a turkey-frying unit! A delicious dinner of deep-fried turkey, stuffing, carrots, mashed potatoes, gravy, jello and whipped cream was a satisfying end to a long day of hiking, outdoor skills development and fun conversation around the fireplace!

So, how cold was it? Marina Grasso, Trip Leader, said "It was so cold my long hair froze along with the other girls which made us look like Elsa in Frozen since our hair appeared to be white. Ironically we were in fact frozen."
