Fall Yoga, Pressure Canning, and Backyard Chickens Workshops at Wright-Locke Farm

Despite the lingering warmth and humidity of summer, the autumn season is upon us... just like Fall Adult Education Programs at Wright-Locke Farm (Winchester, MA). The Farm offers a variety of practical skills workshops related to healthy living, small-scale agriculture, and the wonders of nature for adults and teens; some programs are also open to kids ages 8 and up when enrolling with an attending adult. Please note that all programs require registration via WLFarm.org to attend.
Savor the beauty of the autumn season with some Morning and Evening Yoga with Brittney Burgess. The next session is TODAY 9/20 from 7 - 8pm, but there are other sessions on Tuesday September 27 (6 - 7am) and October 4 (7 - 8pm). Set to the backdrop of the fields, this class is appropriate for all levels of yoga experience. Instructor Brittney Burgess will guide students through a vinyasa flow emphasizing a combination of power and flexibility through the dynamic combination of breath and movement.

Busy during the week? Join the Farm this weekend for our Introduction to Pressure Canning Workshop with Kimi Ceridon on Sunday, September 25 from 4 - 7pm at Saint Eulalia's Parish kitchen (50 Ridge Street, Winchester, MA). Hot water bath canning is a great way to preserve the flavors of the warm months, but is limited to high-acid foods like jams, pickles, and salsa. Learn about the equipment, resources, and safety precautions necessary for successful steam pressure canning of low-acid foods like plain vegetables, meat / poultry, soups, sauces, and more. Under the guidance of Ms. Ceridon, attendees will prepare and pressure can a pint jar of vegetables to take home and enjoy.
Finally, next Tuesday 9/27 the Farm will host its annual Raising Backyard Chickens Workshop with Demetra Tseckares of Gardens by Demetra from 6:30 - 8pm. Kids ages 8 and up my sign up to attend this workshop with an adult. Learn about the fundamentals of backyard chicken care, including how to purchase chicks or young birds, breed selection, coop and pen considerations, feed suggestions, egg production, and more.
