Letter: Local Officials Unit Against Proposed MBTA Cuts

A letter from members of the 128 Central Corridor Coalition in response to the proposed MBTA service cuts.

The following is a letter to the MBTA from representatives of the 128 Central Corridor Coalition. Burlington Selectman Ralph Patuto is the town's ambassador in the coalition:

Dear Sir,

The Boards of Selectmen from the towns of Weston, Lincoln, Lexington, Burlington and the Mayor of the City of Waltham, who form the 128 Central Corridor Coalition (128 C3), are unified in asking the MBTA and our elected officials in the Commonwealth to ensure the retention of all public transit service in our area.

128 C3 was formed to support sustainable economic development in our municipalities, and our communities are important engines of job growth in the state.

Our residents depend on accessibility of which public transit is a needed and critical component.

Many workers in our region have no access to jobs except via public transit, the very routes currently under consideration for elimination.

Implementation of proposed services cut will certainly increase roadway congestion, decrease desirability for economic development and decrease the available workforce for many jobs in this area.

We ask our elected officials and the MBTA to develop creative solutions to maintain and expand public transportation in the 129 corridor.

Sincerely,

Jeannette McCarthy, Chairperson 128 Central Corridor Coalition
