Motorist Injured After Falling Ice Crashes Through Windshield

Ice fell from a rooftop onto an occupied vehicle, injuring the driver.

A driver was injured Thursday morning when a large piece of ice fell from a rooftop and landed on the car, according to Burlington Fire Chief Steve Yetman.

On arrival, personnel found a female patient, located inside a motor vehicle, with a large piece of ice sticking out of the windshield. The ice had fallen from the roof of her residence.

“We are very fortunate that the victim in this instance was not more seriously injured,” Chief Yetman said. “However, as temperatures warm up and rain mixes with the snow already packed onto rooftops, it creates very dangerous situations like this if roofs are not properly cleared.”

A Burlington Building Inspector was called to the scene to assess a damaged skylight located on the roof of condominium.
