Red Devils Play for Repeat Sunday at TD Garden

Burlington High School's boys hockey team has been there before. Now they hope to do it again.

The Red Devils take on Marshfield at 8:15 p.m. on the ice of TD Garden, the same venue where they took home a state championship one season ago.

"It’s a different team than last year, but we do use last year as a motivation in terms of getting back (to TD Garden)," said head coach Bob Conceison. "What happens on Sunday will be unaffected by last year. It’s a different day and a different year. But certainly they had it in the back of their mind."

According to Conceison, the game will feature to significantly different styles of play. Marshfield will look to light the scoreboard early and often, but will be susceptible to allowing goals in its own defensive end.

Burlington, meanwhile, is looking to utilize its strong goaltending and team defense to keep the game a low scoring affair. Derek DeCastro will be critical, as the senior captain and goalie has kept the Red Devils in games throughout his career.

"I think when you come up to big games, the most important person is the guy in the blue paint," said Conceison. "He’s as talented as they come in the state in terms of high school hockey. We’re happy he’s on our team and he can be the great equalizer. He’s going to have a lot of work and he’s ready for that."

Burlington's game is the final contest on a full slate of championship tilts. The Red Devils are expected to draw a large and vocal crowd, as has been the case throughout the postseason.

Conceison said playing on the ice of TD Garden is a thrill for he and his players, and he expects them to shake off the nerves and put together another strong performance.

"It’s such a great achievement. I’m more happy for the kids," said Conceison. "I know last year was such a great experience and you want every kid to feel that and get this towards the end of their career. This is a reward that doesn’t happen all the time. I’m happy they’ll get to experience."
