Seasons 52 to Open in Wayside

Revitalization plan and re-branding underway at center formerly named Wayside Commons

The following is a release from the Wilder Company, the management firm behind Wayside, with :

The Wilder Companies, the retail real estate leasing, management and development firm announced today that as part of a two-phased revitalization plan the highly-acclaimed fresh grill and wine bar restaurant, Seasons 52, has selected Wayside as its first Massachusetts location.

Taking the upper level of the former Border’s space, Seasons 52 is known for its seasonally inspired menu and fresh approach to dining.   Menus change four times a year with weekly specials. Seasons 52 is known for its warm, welcoming ambiance with rich mahogany accents and custom built wine cellars with seating in a casually sophisticated dining room, in a piano bar featuring live music nightly and on custom designed patios.  Additionally, the restaurant will offer private dining rooms for larger groups and events.

“Wayside opened in 2006 and in that short time retailing has changed dramatically. Our customers are looking for increased shopping and dining choices and today’s most desirable merchants have very different space demands. We are making excellent use of both Border’s levels by dividing it into two functional spaces. This allows us to introduce a highly popular restaurant like Seasons 52 to the Greater Boston marketplace, and still have room for an additional retailer on the lower level,” said David J. Mallen, a principal of The Wilder Companies; management company for Wayside.

Phase I will introduce additional new merchants including more restaurants and a national home furnishings retailer for the former Border’s lower level.  To create more efficiency and accessibility parking will be reconfigured and to create better pedestrian flow, a portion of the large, green median strip will be reworked to include a “pocket park” with seating and a children’s play area.

Phase II will see property improvements including replacing Wayside Road’s utility poles with decorative lighting and, for a cleaner look and safer site, the utilities will be buried. Plans call for architectural, lighting and signage upgrades at the rear of the center and, to facilitate better traffic flow, project identification will be renewed and wayfinding signage introduced.  The project will employ a sophisticated contemporary design using the traditional New England elements and materials already found throughout the center.

Finally, to support these positive changes, its new name, and position the center for its bright future, Wayside has a new logo and a new brand strategy. Now known as simply “Wayside” its new tag line, “Way to Shop,” offers an open invitation to spend time shopping and dining in a friendly, open-air destination that easily and conveniently suits customer’s lifestyles.

“Seasons 52 is just the beginning of the next phase for Wayside,” said Gary Robinson, Vice President of Leasing for The Wilder Companies. “As the economy gets stronger we are excited and optimistic about all the positive changes that are in the works. We are sure this will make Wayside a retail destination of choice for years to come.”
