Teen LIGHT Speaks at Board of Selectmen
The Marshall Simonds Middle School group Teen LIGHT Leadership Team received permission from town leaders to use the Town Commons on June 4 for a 5K walk-a-thon
It was a younger-than-usual crowd at last night's Board of Selectmen meeting. The reason was a group of 13 students from , all part of the Teen LIGHT Leadership Team, who came to speak to town leaders on an upcoming fundraising event.
The group was requesting permission to use the Town Commons on June 4 for a 5K walk-a-thon. The event will help raise money for this year's project: helping students with the issue of bullying. The group is hoping to either have a speaker come to the school or to send the eighth-grade on a field trip on the subject. During the event the group will have food, drinks, activities and a dunk-tank on the commons.
The Board appeared pleased to grant permission for use of the Commons. Member Robert Hogan was summed up what the other members were saying when he stated: "I hope the people of Burlington recognize how fortunate we are to have young people working not only on issues that will affect them but future generations of students."

The Teen LIGHT members did a great job explaining the group, the fundraiser and their goals for the year during the Board of Selectmen meeting, so let's just watch the video and let them speak.
One more thing, if you are unfamiliar with Teen LIGHT, click for a story we posted on the group a couple months ago.
