Our latest READ IT video book review features "The End of Animal Farming," by Jacy Reese. Reviewer Shelley says, "It will fire you up if you're an activist and educate you if you're not." In conjunction with the video book review, Burlington Public Library is featuring a Humane Bookshelf Display, designed to encourage compassion to animals through humane education. The Humane Bookshelf is on the second floor of the library. It's an assortment of books on vegetarianism, cooking, volunteering, and animal rights.

Les Sampou & The Dirty Martinis Jazz Duo – Thursday, September 19th at 7pm. This extraordinary vocal and jazz piano duo brings the American Songbook to life with a unique and sultry take on the classic renditions of such great singers as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Nat KingCole. These experienced performers understand how to craft music and present a performance that’s fun, stylish and crowd pleasing for all. From intimate coffee houses to the Montreal Jazz Festival, Les has sung before crowds of 200 to 20,000. She has toured North American and Europe and has opened for such legends as the late Aretha Franklin. Accompanying Les on piano is Edward Grenga, who composes for such PBS shows asNova and This Old House, as well as scoring numerous films each year.

This program is made possible by the generosity of the Friends of the Burlington Public Library. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.

Free Blood Pressure Screening – Thursday, September 26th @ 6:30-7:30pm.The Burlington Public Library will be offering free blood pressure screening on Thursday evening September26 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. A nurse volunteer will be here from Burlington Volunteer Reserve Corps. Come get this important screening done in a relaxed setting.

K-5 Pop-Up Program: Talk-Like-a-Pirate Party - Thursday, September 26 @ 4 pm Mary will share pirate yarns, jokes, and sea shanties, along with games to put you through yerrrr pirate paces!
