Cambridge Man Arrested On Illegal Drug And Weapon Charges

Police say this is the third arrest of its kind so far this month.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — A resident was arrested on multiple drug and gun-related charges after a recent altercation with officers, the Cambridge Police Department announced on Monday.

Robert Sullivan, 42, has officially been charged with trafficking of a Class A substance, trafficking of a Class B substance, possession of a Class E substance, unlawful possession of a firearm with a large capacity feeding device, possession of a dangerous weapon, and receiving stolen property.

Patrol officers who were in Porter Square this past Thursday reportedly recognized the bicycle Sullivan was riding as one that had recently been stolen. Officers then stopped Sullivan where they eventually confirmed the bike was stolen.

“During the interaction, Sullivan was frisked for weapons after informing officers he had a pocketknife,” the department said in a statement. “This frisk located a loaded, 9mm handgun, a crime as Sullivan does not have a license to carry a firearm.”

After discovering the weapon, police then searched the man’s bag and found what they believe to be heroin, fentanyl, methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and prescription drugs. An electric stun gun was also inside the bag.

“This is the third arrest for the illegal possession of a firearm in North Cambridge in just over a week,” the department said.

Brett Parnham and Kyle Evans are the other two who have been arrested on similar charges. Sulivan is being prosecuted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and was arraigned in Cambridge District Court within 24 hours after his arrest.
