Cambridge Lowering Speed Limits In High-Traffic Areas
The new speed limits go into effect March 1.

CAMBRIDGE, MA – The city of Cambridge will lower the speed limit to 20 mph in some high-traffic areas March 1. The new limit will go into effect in Kendall, Central, Inman, Harvard and Porter squares as part of the city's Vision Zero action plan.
The initiative, adopted by the city council in 2016, is designed to reduce traffic fatalities to zero, according to Boston 25. Officials told the network pedestrians and cyclists are more likely to survive a crash when a car is traveling 20 mph or lower.
The city has been collecting data on traffic-related crashes, injuries and fatalities for two years and will release its full Vision Zero plan this Thursday, Feb. 8. Cambridge is one of 13 major cities nationwide to commit to an action plan.
