Cambridge Police Save Person Trapped On Train Tracks

The rescue took place in late December.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — The police department released body camera footage Thursday of a dangerous rescue performed by officers at a train station in December.

Police responded to the Central Square MBTA station at approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27 after receiving reports that a person had fallen onto the tracks. Multiple officers descended on the stairs to the underground station and proceeded to the left end of the concourse on the outbound side of the tracks. Multiple civilians directed officers in the direction of the person in need of assistance. The person, whose identity has not been released, was lying horizontally across the tracks, unable to move due to an injury. With a train slated to arrive within one minute, two officers jumped down onto the tracks, lifted the civilian off them, and onto the concourse to safety. According to the department, the victim was then taken to the hospital to have their injuries evaluated.

No criminal investigation has been made in regard to the incident.
