Food For Free Celebrates Donors During Breakfast Event in Cambridge
The Donor Appreciation Event Was Held at The Lexington

CAMBRIDGE, Mass – On March 20, Food For Free recognized longtime donors of the organization during a celebratory breakfast event. The event was held at The Lexington in Cambridge Crossing and brought together 25 long-time donors of the nonprofit. During a speaking program, guests heard from Michelle Lower and Deanne Wherry, members of the Food For Free board, Jessica Tretina, Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications, and Jessica Cantin, CEO of Food For Free.
Food For Free is the leading food rescue and distribution nonprofit dedicated to providing reliable access to fresh and nutritious food to Eastern Massachusetts communities. Headquartered in Somerville, Massachusetts, the organization rescues food that would otherwise go to waste and creates new distribution channels to reach underserved populations in 25 communities across the region.
“Our donors are essential to our ability to promote food and nutrition security across eastern Massachusetts,” says Cantin. “The donor appreciation event was a celebration of our dedicated donors who have been supporting Food For Free for at least 20 years. Their unwavering commitment has allowed us to establish deep roots in the Cambridge community and extend our reach to serve 25 communities across eastern Massachusetts. It was truly special that one of our organization’s co-founders was able to join us and engage in meaningful conversations with long-time donors and current staff and board members. Together, we continue to nourish our community and make a lasting impact.”

Through a combination of food program support and direct service offerings, Food For Free uses partnerships, innovation and logistics to strengthen the community food system. The nonprofit works with 110 food donors and 153 food distribution partners to bridge fresh food access gaps in communities.
As one of the nation’s first food rescue organizations, Food For Free now serves more than 150,000 Massachusetts residents who are food insecure and distributes over 6.2 million pounds of nutritious fresh and prepared foods annually. For more information, visit: www.foodforfree.org.
