Cambridge Firefighter Announces Retirement After 33 Years (patch.com) — Cambridge residents are saying goodbye to firefighter Michael Davis, who has retired after 33 years serving the city, most recently from the Porter Square Fire Station. Hired in 1993, Davis was praised for his kindness, professionalism, and dedication as he worked through decades of changes in firefighting and public safety. City officials publicly thanked him and wished him and his family well in retirement.
   

2. Men's Soccer Opens 2026 Season with 4-1 Win over Massachusetts (gocrimson.com) — Harvard men's soccer kicked off its 2026 season in Cambridge with a 4–1 home win over UMass at Jordan Field, drawing more than 1,200 fans. Four different Crimson players scored, the freshman goalkeeper earned his first collegiate win, and Harvard notched its first season-opening victory since 2022 before heading to Notre Dame on Monday.

Police log for Aug. 12–22, 2026 (lincolnsquirrel.com) — A recent regional police log notes a Cambridge, Mass. resident arrested in Lincoln on Concord Road for alleged impaired and negligent driving, and a separate crash response on Cambridge Turnpike eastbound. The report also details a wide range of routine calls, from leaf-blower bylaw complaints and fraud reports to wildlife sightings, welfare checks, and mutual aid with neighboring departments.

Sara Bareilles' Husband, Joe Tippett, Praises Her New Album 'Good Grief' & Calls It a 'Gift' (justjared.com) — Cambridge gets a brief shout-out as the place where Sara Bareilles and actor Joe Tippett first met while working on her musical "Waitress" at the American Repertory Theater back in 2015. Now married, they're celebrating her first album in seven years, "Good Grief," which explores loss, fertility struggles, and healing, with Tippett publicly praising the project as a deeply personal gift.
