Rachel Weinstein's Campaign for School Committee Hosts Event
Fundraiser & Friend-raiser to occur Wednesday, September 18
Cambridge native, Cambridge Public School graduate and parent Rachel Weinstein will gather with supporters of her campaign for the School Committee on Wednesday, September 18 at Gran Gusto Trattoria (90 Sherman St), from 5:30-7:30 pm.
Rachel brings a wealth of experience in both the educational and political realms to her campaign. A past paraprofessional at Graham and Parks School and sixth grade reading teacher (in California), she has for eight years served as Chief Collaboration Officer for the Boston Compact, coordinating the partnership of Boston’s district, charter and Catholic schools. In this capacity, Weinstein has catalyzed productive professional relationships across a diverse array of educators as they establish a path forward that benefits children and families across Boston.
Rachel Weinstein also has worked on the political side of education policy. Just out of college, she served as an intern to then-State Representative Alice Wolf (D-Cambridge). Later, during the decade she lived in California, Rachel dove deeply into the realm of electoral politics. Among other roles, she ran the home office of the California Senate President, working in partnership with a wide range of constituents and community members.

In addition to her skills as an effective collaborator, Weinstein brings to her campaign the perspective and passion of a current parent. Her son’s elementary school years have given her insight into the experiences of children of color in Cambridge schools. Rachel has served on the Tobin Montessori School Site Council and participated in the Cambridge Public Schools’ Building Equity Bridges initiative as a member of a sense-making team focused on racial disparities in school discipline. In addition, she currently serves on the City’s Human Services Commission.
Daughter of former School Committee member Larry Weinstein and his late wife Diane, the candidate is also the sister of CPS grad and parent Noam Weinstein. Larry and Noam are among a long list of supporters hosting Wednesday’s event, including former State Rep. Alice Wolf, current state Rep. Marjorie Wolf, City Councilor Alanna Mallon and many local educators and families. Children are welcome to attend the event with their families.
