Suspect Arrested In Sunday Cambridge Shooting

The shooting in the River Street area came on the heels of violence at the Cambridge Carnival.

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Police arrested a Boston man Wednesday morning and charged him in a shooting in Cambridge over the weekend. Lamaree Wallace, 20, faces weapon and drug charges in the non-fatal shooting Sunday evening in the area of River Street and William Street.

Investigators identified Wallace as the alleged shooter. He was taken into custody while walking in the area of William Street on Wednesday. A man arrested with Wallace, Frantz Teneus, 21, also of Boston, has been charged with a drug offense.

"I am real proud of the professional and around-the-clock investigation conducted by our officers and the cooperation we received from our residents," Police Commissioner Branville G. Bard said in a release. "As a result of this invaluable teamwork, we were able to apprehend and take a dangerous suspect off of our streets. We still have more work to do, but these arrests speak to the progress that has been made by our hard-working officers, who are fully committed to resolving the recent spate of violence in our community."

The shooting was reported at 5:20 p.m. Sunday evening, about half an hour after two people were shot at the Cambridge Carnival. Both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Michael Coleman, 23, of Dorchester, was arrested that day and charged in the carnival shooting.

Cambridge police are still seeking to identify any additional suspects who may have been involved in the shooting on River Street, as well as a separate shooting that occurred in the same area on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
