Traffic Alert: Memorial Drive To Undergo 2 Week Repaving Project

Translation: Lane closures mean likely traffic delays for cars and a sidewalk will be closed to pedestrians.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Love it or hate it, Memorial Drive in Cambridge is about to get a bit of a makeover. But in order to do that, there will be lane closures. The good news (aside from a smoothing of that pavement), is that most of the work, and said lane closures, will be happening after 7 p.m.

The bad news? This is slated to last for two weeks.

Starting on Sunday, June 10, the Department of Conservation and Recreation will be closing "various" lanes along Memorial Drive (westbound) in the City of Cambridge between Wadsworth Street and Massachusetts Avenue from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to accommodate milling and paving operations.

This comes just before a major sidewalk closure that's sure to impact a number of morning (or evening) runs.

Starting Wednesday, June 13, the DCR will be closing a sidewalk along the residential side of Memorial Drive in Cambridge between Danforth Street and Endicott Street as they work on replacing the sidewalk there. A detour will be in place, and a police detail will be on site, according to a statement.
