A Canton Moment with George O'Brien

George F. O'Brien has been living on the same street in Canton for more than 30 years and worked for the telephone company in electronics most of his life, which took him all over New England.

O'Brien met his wife Doris when he was 15-years-old and knew that she was the gal for him. The two had five children and 10 grandchildren and were married for 55 years. Doris passed away 10 years ago.

Canton folks may recognize O'Brien because he is very much into physical fitness. He was skiing in the Austrian Alps at Innsbruck and Kitchbuel through his 70's. He still walks every single day up and down Washington Street holding his cane and wearing his headsets. Years ago he would walk six miles and did that for 30 years. Now he does two and is happy with that.

O'Brien said, "I always liked Canton and don't see that it's changed that much. Maybe it's because I still have many of the same neighbors who get together regularly for neighborhood block parties."

When you see him walking, say hello! He's a very friendly guy and he has some very funny jokes to tell.
