CANTON, MA – A Mattapan man was arrested Thursday in connection with a violent home invasion in Canton over the summer, the Canton Police Department announced. Eriberto Genao, 22, has been charged in the July 18 armed home invasion during which an elderly man was allegedly pistol-whipped.

Police said around 11 a.m. on July 18, three men allegedly entered the home of a 71-year-old man and his wife on the northeast side of Canton, near Stoughton and Rt. 138. Two of the suspects were carrying weapons, and the man was "severely" beaten in the head with a pistol, according to police. He was taken to the hospital with "serious but non-life-threatening injuries."

The men fled the area with a fourth person in what police believed to be a Chrysler Pacifica. Police later said the attack was not random.
