May e-Newsletter--Greenwood Real Properties/Keller Williams Realty

May e-Newletter

In this current economic environment it is more important than ever to stay focused on protecting our most significant investment, our homes.  As homeowners we all know the importance of maintaining this most valuable asset.  For many people, the equity in their home is what will see them through their retirement years.  As real estate consultants, we are committed to helping our family, friends, neighbors and clients achieve this objective.  To assist you with this endeavor, we have compiled a monthly e-Newsletter which contains information for those Do-It Yourselfers as well as recommendations for skilled tradesman/contractors.  Topics in our e-Newsletter include:

  • A comprehensive home maintenance checklist broken down monthly for ease of scheduling, implementation and use.
  • Featured Tradesman for those projects that require a professional
  • Featured Article(s)- to keep you up to date
  • Suggested reading(s)- for homeowners full of information and ideas

Remember, consistency is the key to the well being of your home.  Proper home maintenance will not only save you money in the long run, it will keep your home safe, improve its overall condition and increase its value.  As realtors, a lot of homes we see are not properly maintained for mainly two reasons; the homeowners are not really sure what should be done and/or they just don’t have the time.  A majority of the items on our checklist can be done by the experienced do-it-yourselfer. So if you are handy around the house, have at it.  If you are not handy around the house and many people fall into this category, we would strongly suggest you hire a professional. Know your limitations!

We would also like to THANK YOU for your continued feedback, insights, ideas and the numerous suggestions we continue to receive for our e-Newsletter. This is a lot of fun, keep them coming!!!

Lyme Disease in Massachusetts: A Public Health Crisis: A Report Issued by the House Committee on Post Audit and Oversight April 2011

LETTER FROM CHAIRMAN DAVID P. LINSK:

Residents of the Commonwealth,

The occurrence of Lyme disease has reached near epidemic proportions in Massachusetts. Virtually every family in Massachusetts has been affected by Lyme disease in some way. Lyme disease is a public health crisis in the Commonwealth. Over 4,000 new cases of Lyme disease were reported in Massachusetts in 2009, the last year for which official totals are available. In reality, due to reporting issues, probably many times that number occurred.

The state’s official response to Lyme disease can be characterized as haphazard at best. The state budget currently does not earmark any public funds for prevention, treatment or education. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health cannot itemize what it spends on Lyme disease. Only a few local Boards of Health have any significant plan or programs. As a result, millions of dollars are lost in employee absences due to Lyme disease. Each year, hundreds of school children miss school. Millions of dollars are spent in medical care.  To read the article in its entirety, click on the link below.  Enjoy!
