Canton Woman Rides 62 Miles to End Alzheimer’s

"This is my tenth year participating in the RIDE to End Alzheimer's," says Ann.

From Alzheimer's Association: Anne Whaley-Tobin of Canton will cycle 62 miles to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research on Saturday, June 9 for the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter’s RIDE to End Alzheimer’s.

“This is my tenth year participating in the RIDE to End Alzheimer’s,” says Ann. “It is a great way to connect with others who are, or have been affected by this disease.”

Ann’s mother went undiagnosed for years and was told it was just normal aging, however that was not the case, she had Alzheimer’s. Now, in memory of her mother, Ann not only participates in the RIDE, but she has also been an active committee member for eight years. She is riding with her team, Team Hope, to raise important funds for research, and to support local outreach and education programs.

Starting and finishing at Odiorne State Park in Rye, NH, the RIDE provides a 2-, 30-, 62- and 100-mile route through the towns of coastal New Hampshire and the north shore of Massachusetts. Formerly called Memory Ride, the RIDE to End Alzheimer’s grew from a small, family-inspired event to a cycling challenge attracting riders throughout New England and beyond. Since the event began 22 years ago, the event has raised over $5,000,000 for Alzheimer’s and dementia research.

“Our vision is a world without Alzheimer’s and research into disease-modifying preventative measures, treatments and ultimately a cure is the key to making that happen,” shared Jim Wessler, President and CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association, MA/NH Chapter. According to the MA/NH Chapter, ninety percent of the funds raised at the RIDE given to research restricted grants for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. The remaining ten percent of the proceeds fund programs and services in both states.
