Charlestown Crime Down, Serious City Crime Up

Crime in Charlestown  to trend lower in 2012 when compared to 2011, according to statistics released this week by the Boston Police Department.

The data shows crime information through April 22. During that period, crime in the neighborhood has been down by 26 percent—.

That decrease impacted nearly all categories of crime—except for robberies.

Police recorded 13 robberies and attempted robberies so far in 2012, compared to 10 in the same period of 2011. Burglaries have been on-track with last year’s numbers, with 15 recorded by April 22 in both years.

The biggest declines came in property theft—down by about 30 percent—and vehicle thefts, which dropped from 17 for this time in 2011 to 10 in 2012.

City-wide, crime numbers have trended about 6 percent lower in 2012 when compared to 2011. However, serious crimes—including rape and murder—have ticked upward.

The neighborhood saw an  in 2011.
