Charlestown resident runs Boston marathon to raise money for Susan G. Komen New England
Charlestown resident, Molly Zuccarini has had the dream of running the Boston Marathon ever since she was a little girl. After working as the Lead Conference Services Manager at the Fairmont Copley Plaza, which is the host hotel for the Boston Marathon, during the 2013 marathon, Molly knew now, more than ever, that she needed to fulfill her dream of running the Marathon.
“This is no longer just a personal goal-I am running this race for the many, many people who are unable to,” said Molly.
Growing up Molly would stake out a spot at the base of Heartbreak Hill and pass out water to as many runners as she could. “It was always the late in the day runners who I felt the most connected to. They were the ones that needed the water, smiles and cheers the most, which, I was happy to provide. I still remember the amazing feeling when I would make eye contact with a runner who had slowed down or started walking and my cheering would get them going again…As I start to process running 26.2 miles, it’s a good thing I believe in karma.”

Next week, on Monday, April 17, 2017, Molly will be one of four team members sporting Susan G. Komen New England Bibs. According to Molly, “It’s truly a dream come true to help raise funds for breast cancer programs and research while training to run 26.2 miles through my beloved city all while wearing my favorite color.”
All funds raised by the Komen New England Marathon team members will support thousands of local families through funding for critical breast care services and groundbreaking research.

“In my previous role as Executive Director of the One Fund Boston I was privileged to see first-hand how running the iconic Boston Marathon can bring healing and demonstrate resilience. Komen New England is thrilled to be a beneficiary of the John Hancock Non-Profit Marathon Program. Our runners inspire us every day with their energy and dedication, and the funds they raise will help us make sure all our neighbors have access to the breast cancer care they need,” said Lori van Dam, CEO of Komen New England.
