National Parks of Boston Celebrate National Park Service 100th Birthday During Bunker Hill Week

Saturday Family Fun Day, Sunday Parade, and more

This year the National Park Service turns 100 and the National Parks of Boston want people to celebrate the moment and have fun in their national parks. The centenary celebrates the achievements of the past 100 years, but it is really about the future--it’s about kicking off a second century of stewardship for America’s national parks and a chance to let those who already know and love the parks—along with the next generation of visitors, supporters, and advocates—explore, learn, be inspired and understand how the National Park Service positively impacts our communities.

On Saturday, June 11 the National Parks of Boston will host a Family Fun Day at the Bunker Hill Monument from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Activities will include His Majesty’s Tenth Regiment of Foot demonstrating their military skill with musket firings and drills throughout the day; the North Shore Stompers, a ten piece marching band playing traditional and patriotic music; environmental art projects with Fireseed Arts, where visitors can create musical instruments from items that are discarded or thought to be unusable; and all-day ranger talks and interactive programs.

On Sunday, June 12 the National Parks of Boston will join the annual Battle of Bunker Hill Day Parade at noon with a contingent of marching and bicycle rangers, a specially decorated trolley, and the improvisational brass band Revolutionary Snake Ensemble performing a unique blend of original and traditional brass band music.
