Police Log: Officers Quickly Charge Man With Unarmed Robbery

And burglar takes digital camera from Winthrop Street apartment.

On Friday, Feb. 3, a victim reported that, minutes earlier, he had asked a man near the intersection of Walford Way and Monument Street for help locating the victim’s girlfriend. In response, the victim said, the man produced a number of small bags from his pocket and asked the victim if he wanted to buy anything. When the victim said no, the man struck him on his right cheek, knocked him to the ground and stole $14 from his pockets. Soon after, officers located a man matching the description given by the victim. The victim identified him as the assailant, and officers charged the man, Dominic Shiner of 50 Emerald Street in Malden, with unarmed robbery.

On Monday, Jan. 30, a Winthrop Street resident reported that the victim came home to find that someone had broken into the residence some time between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. The burglar broke a window, but stole only a digital camera, according to a police report.
