FinCom Approves $1 Million Transfer Request to Cover School Budget Deficit

Committee voted to approve a fall Town Meeting article for the transfer of funds.

The Chelmsford Finance Committee Thursday night voted 6-1 Thursday night to approve a Fall Town Meeting article that would help with the financial deficit the School Department has been facing.

The article would request transferring $1,108,591 from free cash to to help close the deficit, following a request from a joint meeting among the Board of Selectmen, Finance Committee and School Committee, the Lowell Sun is reporting.

The mismanagement of school funds has been a hot button topic in town for months. Last month, the majority of the town’s School Committee members said they didn’t plan on taking any action against the town’s superintendent and believe he will help them get out of the financial mess they are in.
