Man Who Stabbed Wife, Intentionally Crashed Into Tree Sentenced

DRACUT, MA – A Dracut man who stabbed his wife before intentionally driving into a tree will serve 8-10 years in prison under a plea agreement. James O'Neil, 60, pleaded guilty to armed assault with intent to murder after considering the trial's impact on his family, including his two adult children, his lawyer told the Lowell Sun.
Prosecutors said O'Neil repeatedly stabbed his wife at their Sesame Street home the night of Jan. 16, 2018. After fleeing, he intentionally crashed his car at the intersection of Methuen Street and Parker Road, according to prosecutors.
O'Neil was charged from his hospital bed after undergoing surgery. His wife sustained life-threatening stab wounds but ultimately survived.
