State Police Identify Woman Killed in Chelmsford Crash

A New Hampshire woman was killed and four others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning.

Massachusetts State Police have identified a New Hampshire woman who died Sunday in a crash in Chelmsford.

Erin Nystrom, 34, of Troy, NH, died in a two-car rollover crash in Chelmsford at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 5, state police said. Four others involved in the crash were transported to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Nystrom, the driver of a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer, was traveling northbound early Sunday morning when the driver of a 2008 Jeep Liberty struck her vehicle from behind, police said. The force of the impact caused the Mercury to roll over, ejecting Nystrom and two passengers from the vehicle, police said. The remaining passenger was not ejected from the vehicle.

Nystrom was transported to Lahey Hospital in Burlington where she was pronounced dead, police said. One of the passengers in the Mercury, a woman from Westmoreland, N.H., was also transported to Lahey Hospital and is in critical condition. A second passenger, a 27-year-old woman, was transported to Tufts Medical Center in Boston with serious injuries, and the third passenger, a 31-year-old man from Keene, N.H., was transported to Lowell General Hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The driver of the Jeep, a 45-year-old man from Nashua, N.H., was transported to Tufts Medical Center with serious injuries, police said.

The crash closed down Route 3 for nearly four and a half hours.

Police are still investigating the crash.
