Bookstore Celebrates Town Birthday
Thoreau Street shop started early with a party for children and families on Friday afternoon.
Barefoot Books celebrated Concord's 375th birthday on Friday with a party and events such as face painting, storytelling and a festive cake of the Old North Bridge. Many families from Concord and out of town attended the event.
"We are a community center and we want to give back," said Alicia Sondhi, Community Relations Assistant for Barefoot Books. Providing classes in cooking, yoga, arts and crafts and regular storytimes, Barefoot Books is providing fun and learning opportunities for both children and families.
With a bright and appealing interior and beautifully illustrated books lining the walls, Patty Keane of Concord says, "I feel like I'm in a library. I'll have a great place to go with my three grandkids."

Robby, who is 4 and from Dover, Mass., was "here for the cooking" the day before the party and had such a good time he had to come back!
Louisa May Alcott even put in a surprise appearance commemorating Concord's link with one of its famous authors.

Nancy Traversy, the owner of Barefoot Books, believes in "connecting with the community and bringing books to life." Bringing "environmental awareness and high quality art" to its books and catering to a "well educated and globally aware" consumer base, Barefoot Books believes in an "organic and grass roots approach."
With a 'Happy Birthday, Dear Concord' sung by both young and old alike and the festive Old North Bridge cake being quickly eaten up, Noah, aged 4, from Concord, summed it up well. When asked what his favorite thing was about the party, he hesitated and said, "the books."
