'Why Boys Fail' Author to Speak at Fenn

Whitmire, a former editorial writer for USA Today and a journalist who has written commentaries for publications including U.S. News, The Washington Post, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and The New Republic, will speak at Fenn on October 26 at 7 p.m.

To write his book Why Boys Fail (Amacon, 2010), Whitmire drew on data, interviews, case studies, and straight-forward analysis to document the problem of boys falling behind in school and never catching up, and to uncover the real reason for the academic slide: boys just don't have the reading and writing skills to keep up.
