Patch Advertising Rep 'Gives 5'

As part of company philosophy, Patch employees are asked to give five days a year to volunteer in the communities they serve.

Tuesday, Aug. 17, was "Give 5" day at Patch and in towns across the country with local Patch websites, it was a day to volunteer.

The company, based in New York, asks all its employees to give 5 work days a year to volunteer in the communities they serve. Patch also donates 5 percent of its advertising space to local charities from the communities it serves.

In Concord, advertising Rep Brian Hemmert cleaned up the outside patio area of the Harvey Wheeler Building to help the Concord Council on Aging prepare for an event they will have there on Thursday.

"We put on our landscaper hats and weeded like it was nobody's business getting the entire area beautified for the seniors in the community," said Hemmert on Wednesday.

"It was great to put business aside for a day and offer some assistance to a great community organization. I know at the end of the day, I did a good deed and helped some real good people.  And the thanks we received from (COA Director) Mary Anne Mortenson and the rest of the people there made it so worthwhile."

Hemmert said he was "a little sore today but would (and will!!) do it again in a heartbeat."
