📰 News we're reading

1. Massachusetts town ex-CFO's suit is partially dismissed (cfo.com) — Concord residents may want to follow a lawsuit by former town CFO Anthony Ansaldi, whose whistleblower and business-interference claims against the town and Manager Kerry Lafleur are moving forward after a judge dismissed two other counts. The case, involving alleged long-running payroll and Social Security issues in Concord's finance department, is unlikely to reach trial before 2028.

2. Unplugged: Select Board disbands TV oversight panel (concordbridge.org) — Concord residents should know the Select Board has voted 4–1 to disband the PEG Access Advisory Committee overseeing Minuteman Media Network, saying the station now runs smoothly under town staff and budget review. Supporters argue this trims an inactive committee, while one board member worried about losing a formal channel for public input as MMN continues to spend nearly $600,000 annually on local coverage.

3. Fallen tree damage? Who pays is rife with ifs, ands, and buts (concordbridge.org) — If you live in Concord near town-owned trees, this story explains when the town's insurance will—and won't—cover damage if one falls on your property. Officials outline how they monitor tree health, recent complaint numbers, and why healthy-tree damage is usually considered an act of nature, while a resident urges neighbors to formally report any worrisome trees along their property lines.

4. What does it mean to be an NHL rookie camp invitee? (nytimes.com) — An 18-year-old Concord resident and recent Concord-Carlisle High School graduate has been invited to the Boston Bruins' rookie camp after going undrafted, giving him a high-profile chance to impress NHL scouts. He recently fast-tracked his coursework to graduate early and join the Moncton Wildcats, hoping strong performances there and in camp will boost his draft chances next year.

5. Massachusetts memorial honors 9/11 fallen firefighters (dailydispatch.com) — Concord firefighters who have died in the line of duty are among 27 Massachusetts names being added to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial's Ring of Honor in Boston, in a ceremony marking 25 years since 9/11. State leaders, firefighters, and families gathered for a procession and remembrance, underscoring the ongoing sacrifices made by departments including Concord's.
