Photo of the Day: Concord Students Learn to Save
Cambridge Savings Bank (CSB) recently presented its CSBsmart Financial Education Program, "Teach Children to Save," to the Willard School in Concord in an event that coincided with National Financial Literacy Month.

In a recent “Teach Children to Save” program at the Willard School in Concord, Cambridge Savings Bank President and CEO Wayne Patenaude read the book, “Just Saving My Money,” to 76 students from four classes.
The event, which coincides with National Financial Literacy Month, encourages students to make saving money a habit at an early age, according to a company press release. This is the first year CSB engaged Willard School students in the program.
“It was a pleasure and an honor to be a part of Teach Children to Save in my own community” said Patenaude. “CSB is dedicated to improving the communities we serve by educating even the youngest of students.”

After reading to the students, Patenaude joined in a discussion with kindergarteners about the earning, saving and spending concepts from the book and gave each student a piggy bank and a dollar in change to practice comparing the values of different coins.
“Through the read aloud experience and hands-on activities facilitated by the bank staff, our students had the chance to participate in a fun and developmentally appropriate lesson that promoted the importance of saving and making good spending choices,” Willard Principal Pat Fernandes said via the press release. “Students especially enjoyed receiving a piggy bank and a few coins for their piggy bank.”
