Rotary Golf Tournament Returns to Country Club

Back by popular demand, the tourney tees off on Aug. 30.

The Rotary Club of Concord Thomas R. Huckins Memorial Golf Tournament will take place Monday, August 30 at the Concord Country Club.

The tournament is open to the public, with an entry fee of $250 and all proceeds going towards the Concord Carlisle Scholarship fund.  After holding the annual tournament at Wedgewood Pines Country Club in Stow the past three years, according to co-chair Phyllis Maurer, the tournament has been moved back to the Concord Country Club.

"We've tried to always have it [at the Concord Country Club], and now we're back there by popular demand," she said.

Along with the entrance fee, the Rotary Club will also have mulligans for sale, a raffle, and a silent auction where golf related items will be sold to help benefit the scholarship fund.

"The tournament is really important because the cost of higher education is prohibitive," Maurer said. "It allows some students to continue with their educations either with books or paying for some courses ordinarily they would not be able to take. There are children in Concord who do not get to make the decision as to where they can go."

Last year, the tournament raised over $17,500, and according to Rotarians, is the single largest donor to the Concord Carlisle Scholarship Fund.

"We're hoping to at least reach that, if not better that amount [this year]." Maurer said.

In order to do that—in addition to golfers—the club is seeking tee and green sponsors, which are the same price as a golfer's entrance fee.

The tournament's shotgun start is scheduled for 1 p.m. and is preceded by lunch and followed by dinner and cocktails at 6:30 p.m.
