Selectmen to Decide on Land, License

Monday night the board meets.

At the Monday night Board of Selectmen's meeting, a decision is expected about whether the town will purchase the approximately five-acre tract of farmland that belongs to the Scimone family.

Since the land is for sale and changing its use, it comes under the state's chapter 61A, meaning that the town has the right of first refusal to buy it or pass.

The Scimone family has a buyer who has signaled an intent to put housing on the acreage at the end of Monsen Road. The Scimone's have a purchase and sale agreement drawn up, but the town is deliberating whether or not to exert its authority under 61A. The Natural Resources Commission has written the board saying the town should buy the land.

In other action expected tonight, the board will continue its hearing on whether or not to grant a wine and beer license to Concord Convenience on Lowell Road.

It is the last retail wine and beer license available to the town. The other alcohol licenses are already given out to either restaurants or other retail stores.

A petition at the convenience store and gas station has been signed by more than 250 people asking that the license be granted to the family that owns the store on the corner of Lowell and Keyes roads.

But two weeks ago, the board declined to close the hearing, wanting to research the history of alcohol licenses throughout town.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Town House.
