Northeast Bicycle Club holds weekly Charlie Baker Time Trials; campers learn basketball basics; Rotary Club golf tournament announced.

It may not be the Tour de France, but that doesn't mean the Northeast Bicycle Club's weekly Charlie Baker Time Trial just any old leisure ride.

The NEBC holds the race each Wednesday night in Concord. The corner of Barnes Hill Road and Lowell Road serves as the starting line.

Cyclists race against the clock to finish a predetermined route with little  more than bragging rights on the line.

"I like to break 23 minutes," said Milton resident Owen McGonagle, a 25-year veteran racer who began riding as a kid and now competes three to four times during the summer season.

"Low 22s I feel a lot better. Riding under (22 minutes), I feel like a man," McGonagle laughed.

The CBTT is just one of many weekly programs offered by the NEBC. Its website offers more information on training sessions, races and leisure rides.

Also this week, the Patriots Boys' Basketball Clinic held its second session of the summer at Concord-Carlisle High School. The camp wrapped up on Friday.

CCHS boys' basketball coach David Cohen serves as the camp director. He's been coaching at the clinic on and off for the past 15 years, he said.

At the camp, boys in grades four-nine learn the fundamentals of the game through coaching instruction and scrimmages.

Earlier this week, the Rotary Club of Concord announced its Thomas R. Huckins Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 30 at Concord Country Club. The cost is $250 per player.
