The United Woman's Club of Concord Membership Tea: Downton Abbey style

The Concord Players' Costume Divas presented a fashion parade from the "Downton Abbey" eras shown on the very popular PBS TV series

The United Woman’s Club of Concord (UWCC) is steeped in a long and rich tradition of women who were ahead of their time. The Concord Woman’s Club (http://www.concordlibrary.org/scollect/Fin_Aids/CWC.htm)
was formed in 1895 with the West Concord Woman’s Club (http://www.concordlibrary.org/scollect/fin_aids/OH_Texts/womens_club.html)
following in 1902. The two organizations became one in 2008 with the purpose of
serving the community as an educational, philanthropic and social entity.

Thursday, September 17th the United Woman’s Club of Concord Members and their Guests dressed in elegant outfits to attend a traditional English Tea, complete with enchanting table decorations and accompanied by small sandwiches, baked sweets and scones. This set the tone for a delightful afternoon of being entertained by the Costume Divas of the Concord Players and some of their friends who displayed fashions from the “Downton Abbey” eras shown on the very popular PBS TV series.

We were delighted to have Tracy Wall who is President of Concord Players,Kathy Booth, Carol Antos, Anne Bantly and Liz Bishop as our wonderful models. Their fashions reflectedthe liberation of women in England as they dropped their corsets and shortenedtheir skirts.

As Tracy Wall narrated the historical details complete with slides, these models prepared a wonderful fashion parade for us. We greatly appreciate all the hours that they put into preparing this fabulous show.

As our Clubs began more than 100 years ago, these fashions reflect what OUR founding members were wearing so many decades ago.
