Danvers Goes Purple In Support Of Those In Recovery

The annual Light the Night Purple walk and speakers will take place Wednesday starting at 6 p.m. at the Peabody Institute Library.

DANVERS, MA — Danvers residents are invited to come out and paint the night purple on Wednesday in support of those dealing with opiate addiction and other substance abuse struggles.

The annual Light the Night Purple ceremony and walk will take place starting at 6 p.m. at the Peabody Institute Library Danvers Pavilion.

The night will start with a community prevention and treatment resource fair and opening remarks at 6, followed by the walk at 6:30 and a performance from the DHS Vocal Alliance with additional speakers and a reception at 7.

The event is free and open to the community with purple T-shirts given to the first 100 attendees.

Attendees are encouraged to wear purple — the color of recovery.

The annual night out is designed to celebrate spring, celebrate life, celebrate hope and celebrate recovery.

Water will be made available and free ice cream will be made available to the first 100 attendees. Those driving are encouraged to use the town hall lot for parking.

The event will be held rain or shine.

The walk is about one mile and will begin on Elm Street, travel down High Street, through Danvers Square, up to the Rail Trail along Hobart Street and back to the library for the reception and speakers.
