Danvers Recreation To Suspend Park Programs Amid Extreme Heat

The Recreation Department said parks will be closed for programming as of noon on Tuesday.

DANVERS, MA — The Danvers Recreation Department has canceled programming for Tuesday afternoon because of the ongoing severe heat conditions.

"All parks will be closed at noon today due to the extreme heat and humidity," Danvers Recreation posted on its social media accounts on Tuesday morning.

Temperatures were once again expected to soar into the mid-90s with high dewpoints making it feel more like 100 degrees on Tuesday. The heat wave is expected to extend through Wednesday before a cold front will bring falling temperatures and humidity on Thursday.

There will be an enhanced chance of thunderstorms on Wednesday.

Danvers officials advised those in need of relief to take advantage of air-conditioned public spaces such as malls, movie theaters and restaurants.

The Senior Center and Danvers Public Library are open for residents who need to keep cool.

Residents are asked to keep an eye on family, neighbors, the elderly and other vulnerable members of the community.

Residents are also urged to prepare for possible power outages if they need electricity for medical equipment or to keep medications cold.
